Although a myth, many survivors claim that an
officer lowering starboard side boats did
shoot himself. Jack Thayer mentioned Murdoch
was lowering the starboard boats, and
is very consistant in his word. It is a very
likely possibility that this myth is true.

liners in 1907. The actual
construction of the Titanic began in 1909.
How long did the Titanic sail before she struck?
Titanic began her maiden voyage on April 10,
1912, at noon and struck the iceberg on
April 14, 1912, at approximately 11:40 pm.
How long did she take to sink?
She struck the iceberg around 11:40 pm on April
14 and sank at approximately 2:20 am
on April 15, therefore sinking 2 hours and 40
minutes after hitting the berg.
